review of Maroush

There's something about the picky share-and-share-alike nature of Lebanese food that makes you not want the night to end. It's all the overflowing wine glasses, top-notch tapas and high-pitched revealing chat that does it. The good thing about this place is it's open till 1.30am, so you can carry on past the witching hour without getting abuse from the waiters.

The food was excellent. The surroundings were plush. We received complementary champaign and desert. The only downside was that the staff were a little too attentive! The restaurant wasn't overly busy and I think we could have been left a bit longer to enjoy our food and take our time with the leftovers, rather than our plates being immediately removed.

Had a set menu which included cold starters, hot starters, main and desserts. There were a lot of food for each course and the mean was finished comfortably with a mint tea. Live entertainment started from 9pm till late. Would be an ideal place for party.

Maroush 1 left me with mixed feelings. Everyone in our group enjoyed the live entertainement during the night. Personally I found the music too loud to catch up with friends hence we ended up spending half an hour outside the restaurant on the street. Food was average - the huge fruit platters at the end of the meal were amazing though and evyone in our group polished them off. Service was attentive and corteous.

As it was Saturday, only set menu was available. The cold and hot mezze were fantastic. I love the baba ganoush, with promeganate garnish as the promeganate gives a wonderful sweet touch to the smoky taste. The main course was great especially the lamb on a bed of rice. The meat was tender and juicy. There was also a live show and belly dancing. The music got a bit too loud though.
