Greenwich market is lovely, pretty setting, near the harbour, gorgeous and amazing food and gift options, we had a lovely time. We experienced the most appalling customer service after trying to replace 2 pieces of carrot and orange cake at the Real Baking Company. . Despite what I thought was rather reasonable behaviour on my part, on presenting our findings the stall holder was rude and extremely defensive. The seller protested the marks were not mould but simply the way the nuts had been cut. I am a food manufacturer myself so I can recognise mould and I pointed out the marks were white/blue not brown as nut residue would have been. Despite this blatant attempt to deceive me I asked politely if we could just have 2 other pieces, I thought as a basic customer service I should be allowed to return something I wasn’t happy with and get a replacement.

She gave us the £2 refund and refused to it sell to us; first accusing us of trying the cake and not liking it, insinuating we had made the mould story up to get our money back; then saying that she wouldn’t sell to us because we’d go and talk about them in a bad light. I was positively incensed, this was unbelievably insulting not only because it was quite obvious from the straight edges on the pieces in the bag that they had not been touched but also because of the discreet way in which I had approached the subject with them in the first place - until her appalling behaviour I had no intention of talking about this with anyone.

After about 5 minutes almost pleading with the woman to sell us some cake we gave up came away absolutely disgusted at her ridiculous, childish and defensive behaviour and threw the rest of the produce we had bought in the bin.

Ruined an otherwise lovely day out at the market, have suggested Greenwich have a word with their vendors as the rest of the market is perfect.

If you are visiting the Cutty Sark or any of the other attractions in Greenwich, I recommend that you take a small detour and visit the market. It has a small selection of food stores and a larger one of craft stalls as well as shops and some cafes/restaurants. A number of the craft stalls sell prints/paintings that are London related. I can recommend the brownies from the bakery stall!
